HOMEMADE BREAD




INGREDIENTS:
4 cups flour (+ 1/2 cup for kneading),
2 tablespoons dry yeast,
1-1/2 teaspoons salt,
2 cups warm water,
1 egg;
In a large mixing bowl combine 2 cups flour, yeast,salt and 2 cups warm water. Beat at low speed of electric mixer for 1/2 minute. Beat 3 minutes at high speed. Stir in the remaining 2 cups of flour. Turn out onto floured surface and knead in enough flour (1/2 cup)to make a stiff dough that is smooth and elastic (8 to 10 minutes). Shape into a ball.

Let rise in warm place until double (1 to 1-1/2 hours). Punch dough; turn out onto lightly floured surface and divide (shape dough the way you like)...

Cover and let rise until nearly double...(30-45 minutes)
Brush with mixture of egg and 1 teaspoon of water...
Bake at 375 F for 40 to 45 minutes...
Cool for 5 minutes before removing from pan...
